Start playback let the preview load in RAM.ħ. Add new solid layer and instantiate Particle Illusion plugin on it.ĥ. Particle Illusion / Boris FX Continuum 16.0.3Ģ. MacBook Air (M1, 2020), 16GB RAM, ~60GB free drive space (from 256GB in total).

RAM gets overloaded and does not get purged even upon creating new project. This eventually leads to ‘Low memory warning’ discussed here. Having just one solid with Particle Illusion on it and switching few factory presets leads to AE demanding more and more RAM with each iteration of switching presets.

(Maybe this would add more useful info here). The only reason why I would use Illustrator would be the insane speed that its GPU accelerated renderer achieves but given that Inkscape has the potential to run way faster than it currently does, I think porting it to ARM would really tighten the gap between the two softwares and finally give people a better alternative to the lacking Affinity designer and Corel Draw.I’m seeing memory leak(ish) issue with 3p plugin (BCC Particle Illusion) on M1 MacBook Air. I tried every other vector graphics software alternative out there and only Illustrator got close to Inkscape in terms of features and ease of use. I won't speculate but I will add that not porting Inkscape to ARM will be a hugely missed opportunity. Now either Rosetta translates Inkscape to ARM better than Inkscape is written for x86 or the M1 is simply way faster than the I7 10700.

Now just so I could check all of my options, I bought an M1 to see if Inkscape would work a bit better on it and to my amazement it runs just as well if not faster than on my Windows machine ( the difference in performance when running it on Linux is marginal and not worth the hassle ). I really wanted to work on a Mac for that fabulous 5k screen but to be honest the experience of using Inkscape on that machine is utterly horrible. I use Inkscape on a daily basis for my work and my files are usually pretty much heavy loaded with a lot of objects and text. I have a 2020 I7 Imac and recently got an M1 mac air.
